For many years, Winfield & Jolowicz on Tort has been one of the leading text-books, if not the leading textbook, for tort law courses.  Its aim is to provide an accessible, thought-provoking and comprehensive account of tort law.  This eighteenth edition of Winfield & Jolowicz on Tort continues in the text's fine tradition by continuing to easily achieve those aims.

Written by a leading authority on tort law, Horton Rogers, Winfield & Jolowicz on Tort is split into twenty six thorough chapters. Topics include: the structure of tort law: history and influences; general characteristics of tortious liability; negligence: duty and breach; negligence: causation, remoteness (scope of liability) and contributory negligence; liability for defective products; defamation and privacy; interference with goods; interference with contract or business; remedies; and defences.

Tort law is a complex mix of statutory and common law principles.  Winfield & Jolowicz on Tort thankfully provides a fantastic flashlight to guide the reader through these principles.  Its accessible writing style allows the reader to quickly understand the principles.  Rogers also continues to use practical examples to explain difficult points: he should be commended for this approach.  Winfield & Jolowicz on Tort has been fully updated to include the latest developments since the previous edition.  The footnotes continue to provide excellent depth and additional explanatory points so that the reader can understand the issues or find extra materials.

I have no hesitation in recommending this eighteenth edition of Winfield & Jolowicz on Tort to anyone studying or interested in tort law.  It is extremely well laid-out and the material is arranged in a logical manner.  This allows the relevant material to be quickly located and understood.  This new edition of Winfield & Jolowicz on Tort also continues to uphold the text's long-standing tradition with the main points being explained both in a clear and academically stimulating manner.
