Whilst there is no substitute for actually reading the law report, the use of the Nutcases series, and particularly Nutcases: Employment Law, can be extremely useful for a student who may be struggling to understand the basic principles.

Written by an experienced employment lawyer, Andrew Bell, Nutcases: Employment Law adopts a very logical approach to the material in this popular third edition.  Each section sets out the key principles followed by relevant cases and the decision made by the Court or Employment Tribunal.  The author then provides his own comments on the decision, citing recent cases which may overrule long-standing principles.

Bell should be commended for Nutcases: Employment Law because he has selected the major and relevant cases which an undergraduate student needs to become familiar with.  This will save many hours which my otherwise have been spent re-reading law reports but readers should, however, always try to tackle the full report once the key principles are understood!

For only £9.50, Nutcases: Employment Law is a resource that no employment law student should be without.  It is well-written and provides a succinct account of the important employment law cases.  This will ultimately stand the reading in good stead before tackling the more detailed, and often enlightening, law reports.
