Written by a leading practitioner and former academic lawyer, Judicial Remedies in Public Law is a step-by-step guide to this complex but important area of law. Its layout is logical meaning it talks the reader through the important stages of a judicial review claim. It also, where relevant, provides useful examples drawing from the author's considerable experience. It also (uniquely) considers damages claims which are a supplemental, but important, part of any judicial review claim. Judicial Remedies in Public Law is impressively written and provides a clear and concise account of the law. Its footnotes are also excellent meaning that submissions to the Administrative Court can be supported by reference to authorities or statutory provisions. Its chapter on practice and procedure, in particular, is excellent and provides a number of hints and tips for both experienced and inexperienced practitioners in judicial review proceedings. Other excellent features include the consideration of costs and, in particular, the availability of protective costs orders (which is highly topical). For anyone practising in judicial review, Clive Lewis QC's Judicial Remedies in Public Law is an indispensible guide to this engaging and important area of law. It is wonderfully written meaning the reader often has an advantage over his or her opponent. My only surprise is that it does not include any precedents and the author may consider including them in future editions. This should not, however, detract from the superb quality of this text.
