Many students struggle to quickly understand the vast array of cases, legislation and political documents of constitutional and administrative law.  Often, these documents are difficult to find.  Fortunately, Michael Allen and Brian Thompson's Cases & Materials on Constitutional and Administrative Law brings together those important resources in one text.

Written by experienced public lawyers, this ninth edition of Cases & Materials on Constitutional and Administrative Law brings together a new layout, by adding a blue background to extracts, and a re-working of the material.  In particular, the authors have introduced an excellent new chapter on judicial independence, which considers the substantial changes following the Constitutional Reform Act 2005.  They have also sub-divided the chapter on Parliament meaning that law-making and reform of the House of Lords is now in its own chapter.

Cases & Materials on Constitutional and Administrative Law includes a number of well-selected materials.  For example, if a case or journal refers to a statutory provision the authors often include a copy of it meaning the reader's attention is not diverted.  The notes are also engaging and encourage the reader to undertake independent reading and critical thinking on the subject-matter.  These features are excellent.

For many lawyers interested in this area of law, Cases & Materials on Constitutional and Administrative Law will be an extremely useful tool because it draws together the important case-law, legislation and journals in one volume.  The coloured backgrounds also aide navigation meaning that a reader can quickly differentiate between text and materials.  It is ideal for those students looking for a companion to a textbook or lectures and those who do not have ready access to a library.
