Cases & Materials on EU Law is split into three parts: the constitutional law of the EU; community trade law and policy; and policy-making, governance and constitutional debate. Each part then contains a number of chapters concentrating on the constituent parts of the topic. For example, community trade law and policy considers important topics like free movement of workers, freedom of establishment and free movement of services and competition law and policy. The skill in a good cases and materials text is for material to be both relevant and succinct. Weatherill's undisputed knowledge of this area of law is clearly shown throughout Cases & Materials on EU Law with a number of excellent journal, case-law and legislative extracts. Weatherill also includes, where relevant, a number of questions and notes for the reader to encourage further independent research. Like many other texts published by OUP, it also has an excellent online resource centre (probably one of the best) including an interactive map and timeline of Europe and text updates. Because EU Law is often a mixture of case-law and statutory materials, Stephen Weatherill's Cases & Materials on EU Law is an invaluable resource for any student tackling this area of law. The material is expertly selected ensuring that the reader can often avoid those difficult times searching for a law report or journal article. Whilst it is not a substitute for reading the whole material or case or researching in the law library, it goes a considerable way to making the reader self-sufficient.
