Written by two experienced environmental lawyers, Environmental Law is separated into three parts: introductory themes; integrated themes; and sectoral coverage. Each part is then sub-divided into distinct chapters like town and country planning, private law and environmental protection, environmental crime and sources of environmental law. By separating the material in this way, the authors ensure that the material remains to the point and in the relevant context. Environmental Law is well-written. Each chapter begins by providing a brief overview followed by a short paragraph explaining what the reader should understand by the end of the chapter. The material is then broken-down in to short and manageable sections allowing the reader to quickly understand the important principles. In a similar vein, the authors have colour-coded case and journal extracts ensuring that they stand out from the text meaning the reader knows where the text ends and where the extract begins. Environmental Law is deservedly a popular text. It is both accessible and engaging. Like the previous edition, it has an Online Resource Centre which includes (at the time of writing) expanded material on town and country planning and also additional chapters (which do not appear in the text) on local controls and remedies and disposal of waste to sewers. It is hoped that updates continue to be added to the site and, if so, it will remain a favourite for students for years to come. Reviewed on 28 March 2009 © Student Law Journal, 2001 - 2010.
