Written by an experienced employment lawyer, Selwyn's Law of Employment is impressively written. It adopts a logical approach to the material by initially discussing the contract of employment before moving onto obligations during employment and then looking at the termination of employment contracts. Like many other texts, it also looks at the important role of Trade Unions. Uniquely, however, it also includes an excellent chapter on practice and procedure which succinctly and clearly explains the procedure in the Employment Tribunal. Selwyn's Law of Employment has a reputation for being an accessible, authoritative and thought-provoking text: this reputation is richly deserved. It explains even the most complex principles both clearly and succinctly. Instead of using a number of footnotes, Selwyn simply makes a short reference to the relevant authority or statutory provision. Further excellent features include the appendices (including a chart explaining the entitlement for statutory redundancy) and the online resource centre (which includes regular updates to ensure the reader is fully up to date). If you are looking for an authoritative, clear and coherent guide to employment law and practice together with a number of handy resources like the redundancy table, you should look no further than Selwyn's Law of Employment. Like previous editions, this is a well thought-out text and should continue to remain a favourite for students and practitioners for many years to come.
