With the increase in cross-border transactions comes an increase in cross-border disputes.  These disputes are often resolved by international arbitration.  Because arbitration is subject to its own rules and involves lawyers trained in both civil law jurisdictions and common law jurisdictions, this only adds to the complexity.  To fully understand this area of law, lawyers should turn to Research and Practice in International Commercial Arbitration: Sources and Strategies.

Written by an experienced lawyer with substantial experience both in practice and in academia, Stacie Strong's Research and Practice in International Commercial Arbitration: Sources and Strategies is separated into two parts: substantive chapters containing practical recommendations on research and practice in international commercial arbitrations and a bibliography of both electronic and print resources commonly used in the field.  By breaking up the material in this way, Strong ensures the text remains wonderfully succinct and accessible.

Whilst Strong suggests that Research and Practice in International Commercial Arbitration: Sources and Strategies is written for both practitioners and students, it is ideally suited for the former.  It provides a number of fantastic hints and tips, most of which come from Strong's experience as a practitioner, to ensure the reader is fully equipped to deal with an international commercial arbitration.  Whilst it is not, of course, a substitute for experience or training, it goes a considerable way to opening the reader's eyes to the issues they are likely to face and need to overcome.

Research and Practice in International Commercial Arbitration: Sources and Strategies is an extremely important text for both students looking to study international commercial arbitration or lawyers who are finding their way through this area of law.  It is packed full of practical information and useful links.  Its layout and written style is also extremely accessible meaning difficult principles are clearly explained.  Its price, at being less than £30, also makes it excellent value for money and a mandatory issue to all junior international commercial arbitration lawyers.
